Doting grandparents, there’s yet another reason to mind your little grandchildren. Take the enjoyment of spending quality time with the little ones and add potential benefits, why wouldn’t you want the pleasure of their company! (Except maybe for the major headache you often have by the time they leave)
The North American Menopause Society conducted a study with 120 grandparents in Australia. The results found that those who babysat one day each week scored higher on a number of cognitive tests. Grandparents who babysit their grandchildren also have a reduced risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, the study concluded.
Don’t get carried away, you can have too much of a good thing. Those grandparents who babysat for five days per week or more struggled with the tests.
So you better get arranging those sleepovers!
