Calls for the government to review off-licence opening hours and how much alcohol they can sell during pandemic

Off-licence sales have been a talking point from publicans who say that the government needs to look at them more closely during the pandemic.

The Minister of State Patrick O’Donovan was on the Claire Byrne radio show and called on the Government to examine the opening hours of off-licences and just how much alcohol can be purchased at any one time.

“When you see slabs of cans being taken home you know that they are not being taken home for an after-dinner drink,” he said. It’s understood that O’Donovan has brought the matter to the attention of the government and they’ll now decided on what to do, if anything at all, about off-licences during the pandemic.
