Cannabis may help to relieve the symptoms of depression, according to a new study by the University of Buffalo. Neuroscientists say that chemicals found in cannabis can relieve feelings of stress and anxiety, while raising over all well-being.
Marijuana is already legal in many countries and several US states for medical purposes. Many people use marijuana to relieve chronic pain but has also been used to treat certain mental health conditions, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Laboratory tests on rats have been promising but scientists are not yet recommending the drug for depression patients. More studies, including possible clinical trials, will be needed before the medical use of cannabis can be expanded.
