Car plunges from bridge in Co Roscommon

An elderly couple has had a lucky  escape this afternoon after their car plunged from a bridge into a river at Boyle in Co Roscommon.

It is understood that the accident happened at around 2pm this afternoon when the car they were traveling in lost control and smashed through a concrete wall which resulted in the car ending up on its side in the river. Thankfully the couple in question were’nt seriously injured in the accident although they were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for shock.

Locals and emergency services helped rescue the couple who were trapped. One onlooker has said “we were just walking along and next we just seen the car lose control and crash through the wall and end up in the river”.
