Catholic Archbishop of Dublin receives great praise for ignoring Martin and Holohan and allowing First Holy Communions and Confirmations to go ahead

The Catholic Archbishop of Dublin said parents should be trusted to know how to protect their health and their child’s health and that the current ban on First Holy Communions and Confirmations is viewed by many as discriminatory.

Dr. Dermot Farrell spoke after writing to priests in his archdiocese to inform them that they can continue with the Sacraments, despite current public health advice that these ceremonies should not continue.

He is the first archbishop to run an archdiocese in this way and is receiving massive praise online for defying Micheal Martin, Leo Varadkar and Tony Holohan in what many believe are “draconian measures”.

Last week, some Bishops told their own dioceses that they would be able to administer the Sacraments to schoolchildren in August.

In a letter received by nearly 200 parishes in the archdiocese, Archbishop Farrell said they could proceed with First Holy Communions and Confirmations if they consider it to be safe.
