Caught in the act: GardaĆ in Co Kerry left red faced after sending a number of armed officers to a staged armed robbery being filmed by TY students

There was a case of mistaken criminal activity in Co Kerry recently after a number of uniformed and armed officers rushed to the scene suspected armed robbery only to find it was the set of a short film.

The rather bizarre incident which occurred on Wednesday night, left a number of Listowel GardaĆ red faced after they arrived at the staged scene in Causeway to find it was the work of a local secondary school’s transition year students production of a short film.

The amusing incident came about after a member of the public alerted the GardaĆ to the alleged armed robbery at a local shop, and unknowingly and fearing the worst, the near by Listowel Garda station decided to react to the ongoing situation by sending a number of uniformed and armed officers to the scene.

However upon their arrival the officers quickly found out that the near by Causeway ComprehensiveĀ had received permission from the local shop owner to film the short film, but unfortunately both the school and shopkeeper forgot to notify the local gardaĆ.

Thankfully no one was injured at the scene, but a spokesperson for Listowel Garda station did say the whole event severely stretched their resources which could have caused a number of problems if a real crime had of took place elsewhere.
