RTE’s Centenary: Irish musicians came together last night for a tremendous concert to mark the 1916 Rising

It has been a special weekend in terms of events marking the 1916 Rising. The country really went all out.

With the many theatrical performances around the country, last night  it was the musicians turn when RTE showed a programme simply called “Centenary”.

What a programme it was. Essentially it was a one and half hour Riverdance-like performance of music, dance and entertainment.

President Michael D. Higgins gave a speech about the weekend’s commemorations.

According to social media, the performance of the night was given to Colm Wilkinson who sang quite simply and outstanding version of U2’s “One”. It was absolutely unbelievable and surely would be a worldwide hit if he was to release it.

The programme was a fitting end to a very well orchestrated and successful weekend of commemorations.
