Significant delays are expected across airports nationwide after a technical issue at Swanwick forced the temporary closure of the air traffic control network in southern England.

NATS, the air traffic control system used in the UK, experienced a technical glitch at its control center in Swanwick, causing chaos across many airports. The system has reportedly now been restored and normal operations are slowly coming back online.

There are significant delays being experienced at Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick airports at present, and disruption is expected to continue for most of the evening.

There will also be a huge knock-on effect across most Irish airports, so check with the airline if you are flying today.
