Erika Kirk, the grieving widow of Charlie Kirk, told her young daughter that “Daddy’s on a work trip with Jesus” after the three-year-old ran into her arms following his tragic death, reports The Mirror.
“What do you tell a 3-yr-old?” Erika said during a live-streamed interview where she spoke publicly for the first time. “I said ‘baby, Daddy loves you so much, he’s on a work trip with Jesus’, so he can afford your blueberry budget.” Her emotional and, at moments, impassioned address aired on FOX News, although the broadcast experienced intermittent technical difficulties.
Speaking from the same streaming room once used by her late husband, Erika was overcome with emotion as she directed a message to former US President Donald Trump. “My husband loved you,” she wept, adding she believed the affection was mutual between the two men, reports The Mirror.
The man accused of murdering Kirk, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, has been taken into custody in Utah, with authorities anticipating a significant update in the case soon. Investigators are examining whether Robinson had help, and The Sun reports that FBI agents are analysing doorbell camera footage allegedly showing Robinson discussing the shooting just moments afterward.
Utah Valley University, where the fatal incident occurred, will resume classes next week, reports The Mirror.
Charlie Kirk was gunned down while speaking at a university event. The shooting took place as he addressed a crowd in the courtyard on campus.
University President Astrid Tuminez announced that employees will return on Monday in a staggered process, followed by support services for students starting Tuesday, reports The Mirror.
People living near the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s murder have described Tyler Robinson as a “quiet” individual from what they considered a regular family background.
Robinson, 22, was said to come from a typical household.
He is due to be officially charged on Tuesday and remains in custody without the option of bail until then, reports The Mirror.
Looking back at his school yearbooks, former classmates of Tyler Robinson—now accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk—once believed he would become a “billionaire by the age of 25.”
Now, they are grappling with the fact that, just three years short of that goal, the once-promising scholarship student has become one of the most sought-after suspects in the country. Once a cheerful teen from a respected, hard-working Mormon family, smiling from the pages of school memories, Robinson now appears as the blank-faced man in a mugshot—accused of political assassination. If convicted, he could face the death penalty, after his own devastated father turned him in to authorities, reports The Mirror.
In southern Utah’s conservative heartland, shocked neighbours and former friends are left stunned—struggling to reconcile the friendly, familiar youth they knew with the man now accused of a deadly crime, reports The Mirror.
