Chemical castration could be offered to sex offenders in Thailand in exchange for a reduced prison sentence

Violators would be monitored for 10 years and would be required to wear electronic monitoring bracelets, under the bill, which requires a further royal vote and approval before passage.

Thailand could soon introduce chemical castration in exchange for a reduced prison sentence for sex offenders.

The bill, approved by the House of Commons in March, was passed by 145 senators with two abstentions.

Another house vote is still required and then royal assent.

Of 16,413 convicted sex offenders released from Thai prisons between 2013 and 2020, 4,848 re-offended, according to the Corrections Authority.
