Chief Medical Officer pours cold water on summer holiday travel saying its not realistic

The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has poured cold water on the idea that people will be able to travel abroad this summer for holiday.

Speaking at National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Holohan said he doesn’t see a summer where people from this part of the world and Europe will be travelling to beaches except in their own localities.

Dr Holohan said unfortunately the situation we find ourselves in now is to focus on getting the most vulnerable in society vaccinated and drive down community transmission.

He added that it’s not realistic to see ourselves in a position where we would do things we would like to do and travel to other parts of the world for summer holidays.
