Chocolaty Goodness: Recent study finds that chocolate can help relieve a pesky cough more than over the counter cough medicines




We all know a pesky cough can be down right annoying for the sufferer and anyone in their company, we also know it can be hugely difficult to relieve the tickly sensation that it creates with over the counter remedies pretty much useless, however fear not help is at hand and it comes from the most unlikely source, chocolate.

Yes! you read that correctly the ever delicious sweet treat has been found to contain properties that can relieve your persistent cough. According to a recent scientific study, it is understood that chocolate has a specific ingredient that could be more effective than some over the counter cough medicines.

The study which was undertaken at the Imperial College London and consisted of 10 healthy volunteers, found that those who took tablets containing theobromine (a constituent of cocoa), found more relief than those who took codeine (a cough suppressant) or a placebo. During the rigorous test volunteers inhaled chilli gas to induce cough, before taking a each tablet. The subsequent results found that those who took theobromine came out on top by relieving the participants cough quicker than those who took codeine.

I guess the latest research gives a new meaning to the phrase chocolaty goodness!.
