A gunman opened fire at a church in Southern California during a Sunday banquet, killing one person and injuring five before worshipers arrested the suspect and tied his legs with power cords, authorities said.

Police raced to the scene, which happened around 1:30pm at the Geneva Presbyterian Church in Laguna Woods and arrested an unidentified suspect in his 60s, the county deputy sheriff said Officer Jeff Hallock, at a press conference.

“That group of churchgoers displayed exceptional heroism and bravery in intervening to stop the suspect. They undoubtedly prevented additional injuries and fatalities,” Fox news reports.

One person died at the scene and four other victims were seriously injured. Another person was slightly injured, he said. All the injured were taken to hospital.

It’s understood the shooter is a 68-yr-old man from Las Vegas named David Chou.
