Dawn revealed a battle-scarred Citywest today after 2,000 furious protesters turned the migrant hotel into a fortress of flames and fury last night, clashing with 600 Gardaí in explosive retaliation for Monday’s rape of a 10-year-old Irish girl by an African asylum seeker. Barricades smouldered amid shattered glass and trampled Irish flags, marking the bloodiest night in Dublin suburbs since 2006.

The atrocity struck at the €148.2 million Citywest Hotel, IPAS’s largest centre sheltering 2,100 applicants. The 36-year-old suspect from sub-Saharan Africa, under deportation since March following a denied claim, allegedly isolated the Tusla-supervised child near the sports field before the brutal assault. Subdued by locals, he was charged under the Criminal Justice (Sexual Offences) Act 2017 and remanded to Portlaoise Prison. The girl, enduring life-threatening injuries, remains intubated in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.

“Protect our kids—deport the rest!” thundered demonstrator Patrick Flynn, 50, as mobs hurled 50 Molotov cocktails, breached gates, and spray-painted “No More Victims” across the facade. Gardaí deployed tear gas, water cannons, and 300 rubber rounds, injuring 25 protesters and 12 officers. RTÉ helicopters beamed the chaos nationwide.

Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan labelked it a “national disgrace,” pledging 500 new IPAS guards and swift removals of all failed claimants. Taoiseach Micheál Martin announced a Tulsa review. Clean-up crews moved in at first light, but residents promised fresh rallies tonight.
