Claire Byrne interviews black Irish people about their racist experiences in Ireland

A number of black Irish people were interviewed on Monday night’s Claire Byrne Live about their racist experiences while growing up.

They said that they felt isolated being the only black kid in school. They said that they were questioned about where they came from, what food they ate and why they were living here.

The State broadcaster spent a very long segment on broadcasting their stories with some claiming that they tried to leave their own identity behind, for example, in Nigeria, so that they’d be accepted.

Some said that they felt they had to deny who they truly were so that they could fit in.
