A local councillor described the village of Clonlara in County Clare as “absolutely shocked” by the death of a seven-year-old kid who had trouble in a hotel swimming pool yesterday afternoon, reports RTE.
Locals refer to the kid as Clonlara’s Shay Lynch.
At the village’s Scoil Seanín Naofa, he was a first-class student.
It was scheduled to be a post-mortem examination today.
The scene of the event was the Lakeside Hotel and Leisure Centre, which has a view over Ballina and Killaloe, reports RTE.
After being brought to University Hospital Limerick, the youngster was eventually declared deceased.
It is believed that the tragedy occurred as the two families were gathered at a party in Killaloe, where a family friend had been confirmed earlier in the day.
Emergency services were notified of the incident just before 3 p.m. yesterday, according to Gardaí, reports RTE.
