Tributes paid to young boy who died after being hit by car in Co Mayo

A child has died after being struck by a car in Crossmolina, Co Mayo, on Sunday.

The incident occurred on the N59 at Eskeragh at 11.20am, reports Breaking News.

The pedestrian, a boy, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, reports Breaking News.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course, reports Breaking News.

The local coroner has been notified.

The scene has been preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place, reports Breaking News.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Road users and pedestrians with camera footage, including dashcam, who were travelling in the area between 10.40am and 11.40am on Sunday 21 June 2026 are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí, reports Breaking News.
