A group of online classmates watched in horror as a girl was robbed at home during a Zoom call English lesson.
Maria Jose was taking an online class at her home in central Ecuador when two men entered her room. Her classmates watched live as they threatened her for belongings, until the laptop snapped shut as they made off with it.
They decided to call the girl’s mother and the police were able to track the thieves through two of the phones they stole. They had taken $4000 worth of possessions, including two guns, the girl’s laptop, a games console and other items.
Police confirmed they have arrested four people in relation to the incident. Ecuador, like many of its Latin American neighbours, has a very high crime rate. Watch the footage below:
