CMO advises public not to use antigen tests as results can’t be relied upon

The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has said that the public should not rely on antigen tests as they can’t be relied upon.

Speaking at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Holohan said the public should not be using the tests in general circumstances as a negative result doesn’t tell you anything.

However Dr Holohan did state that antigen tests in a controlled environment could have a role to play.

He added that the tests could give someone the false belief that they could enter someone house or attend a gathering thinking they’re ok and they might not be.
