The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has that 43% of patients in ICU across the country are under the age of 50.
Speaking about the latest Covid-19 figures, Dr Holohan said that the number of people in ICU is a stark reminder for everyone to continue adhering to public health guidelines.
The Chief Medical Officer also said the incidence rate is increasing all age groups and he urged those who are not yet vaccinated to get their vaccine as soon as they can.
He added fully vaccinated people are are protected from severe illness.
