The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has said NPHET haven’t recommended going back on restrictions at this point, but they can’t rule anything out.
Speaking this evening at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Holohan said NPHET aren’t currently recommending reintroducing restrictions but they can’t rule anything out given the rise in Delta variant cases.
Dr Holohan warned that the Delta variant is likely to be with us for some time to come and cases are expected to rise not only in Ireland but across Europe over the coming weeks and months ahead.
He added that we can’t predict whether or not we will see a new variant in the future.
