According to various reports it is believed that the coast guard is currently monitoring a huge 292m container ship who’s engines has suddenly stopped and is currently drifting off Fastnet lighthouse off the Cork coast.

It is understood that the huge  Atlantic Companion vessel was apparently on route from Liverpool to Halifax when it experienced engine problems earlier this afternoon. It is thought that the ship’s captain is hoping to restart the engines soon and make for shelter to carry out urgent repairs.

The Coast guard say that officers at Valentia are in regular contact with the vessel’s captain and they are monitoring its situation. They also say there is no immediate danger to other ships within the area.
