There have been a number complaints recently after RTE refused to air a new Budweiser advert which features none other than one of the country’s biggest hero’s Conor McGregor.
The new advert for the infamous beer has been pulled from the airwaves by the state broadcaster after management claimed it strongly promotes under age drinking. The 40-second video, entitled ‘Dream Big’, features ‘The Notorious’ giving a short motivational speech. The rather bizarre decision by RTE to pull the advert comes as current advertising guidelines prohibit brands from using ‘heroes of the young’ to market alcohol.
According to sources the broadcaster believes it would be highly inappropriate to air the advert because McGregor is so popular amongst young people.
Meanwhile the broadcaster’s head of services for commercial operations Paul Mulligan said: “RTE believes it took the correct and prudent course of action in not approving the commercials for broadcast on its television services.”
