Concert goers warned of possible taxi shortages this weekend

Concertgoers are advised that there may not be enough taxis in Dublin this weekend, reports RTE.

The concerts by Taylor Swift, Longitude, Shania Twain, and Fairview Park, in addition to the Dublin Pride Parade and the GAA Senior Football Championship quarterfinals, are expected to draw 600,000 visitors to the nation’s capital, according to the Taxis for Ireland Coalition, which advocates for increased access to taxi services throughout the nation.

Over the weekend, American pop sensation Swift has three sold-out shows at Aviva Stadium; on Friday night, Twain will perform in Malahide, and on Saturday, The Saw Doctors will play in Fairview Park, reports RTE.

It is projected that this may result in lengthy transportation lines for individuals in need of a ride home.

“With thousands of people arriving in Ireland for the general tourist season and huge events like Taylor Swift at the Aviva, we are set to see strong demand for taxi services,” said Eoghan O’Mara Walsh, chief executive of the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation, reports RTE.

“Taxis provide an essential service, particularly for tourists who often need to go door-to-door and can struggle with navigating the public transport system,” he added, reports RTE.
