Public confidence in banks has been ‘deeply shattered’ due to the Tracker mortgage scandal, according to Frances Fitzgerald.
The issue with the Tracker mortgages, whereby the facility was either not offered to customers, or removed altogether, has affected at least 13,000 families. Some homes were lost as a result, causing significant hardship in many cases.
Some political forces have called for a criminal investigation into the issue.
