A batch of contaminated tablets is believed to be the root cause of the deaths of two people in Tullamore in recent days.
Two women, aged 44 and 19 respectively, died in Clonamore House Hotel in Tullamore, Co Offaly, shortly after taking the tablets. The facility is used to house homeless people. Two men who also took tablets are now in hospital, one of them gravely ill.
Preliminary investigations point to a batch of fake Xanax tablets purchased on the Internet.
The tablets were reportedly supplied by a known criminal who was questioned about a murder in Portaloise in 2019.
