Lee Kun-hee, the chairman of the Samsung corporation, has passed away aged 78 following a long illness.
Lee inherited Samsung from his father, who passed away in 1987, and quickly turned the company into a multi-billion corporation. Samsung has been the top smartphone seller worldwide for several years, for example.
Although often controversial -Lee was involved in several tax-evasion and other scandals in his lifetime-, he always obtained presidential pardons and led Samsung to become a household name.
Lee suffered a heart attack in 2014 and slipped into a coma from which he never recovered. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, aged 78
