Controversial HPV vaccine to be offered to first year secondary school boys from September

The controversial HPV vaccine will be offered to first year boys in secondary schools in Ireland from next week for the first time ever.

Up until now, it was just girls who were offered the HPV (human papilloma virus) vaccine but now boys will be included in the free programme – something that has parents on the fence about.

It’s understood that the Health Information and Quality Authority carried out a review and that the vaccine is being extended to all first-year secondary school students from the start of September.
