Michaella McCollum, the Co. Tyrone woman imprisoned in a Peruvian prison after being convicted of drug smuggling, has been released, her solicitor has confirmed.
Both McCollum and Melissa Reid, from Scotland, were locked up in 2013 for six years and eight months after admitting the attempt to smuggle £1.5m worth of cocaine from Peru to Spain.
McCollum’s solicitor has said that the woman has been released on parole.
It is not immediately clear whether the terms of McCollum’s parole will allow her to return home.
It is understood that Melissa Reid remains imprisoned.
