The Purple Flag is awarded to towns and cities offering safe, diverse and entertaining nights out. This flag focuses on places where the safety and management of those out at night-time can be almost guaranteed.

It can be likened to that of the Blue Flag awarded to beaches.

It was announced today that Cork City Centre Form had been successful in their application for the Purple Flag, a campaign that involved over forty of Cork’s traders and centre stakeholders.

Chair of the Forum, Gillian Keating declared that “this application process has been fantastic for highlighting the great work that is ongoing and the projects that are being undertaken in and around the city; Cork is clearly going from strength to strength,”

Michelle O’ Sullivan, Purple Flag Coordinator said that this achievement solidifies Cork’s status as a must visit for tourists and citizens.

The Purple Flag Academy Awards will take place on November 3rd in Guildford, UK.

Towns in both Ireland and the UK will be awarded their Purple Flags which they can then bring back to their respective towns.
