There are currently 98 patients at Cork University Hospital in chairs or trolleys, setting a new record for the hospital’s congestion, reports Breaking News.
641 people are without a bed in Irish hospitals as of Tuesday, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO)
Colm Porter, assistant director of industrial relations for NMO’s southern division, stated: “It is quite alarming how many patients at Cork University Hospital are being treated on chairs, carts, and other inappropriate bed spaces.
“Despite their best efforts to ensure safe care, our members are facing overwhelming patient numbers in the Emergency Department, further compounded by a staffing shortage worsened by the HSE’s ongoing recruitment freeze. This situation is putting immense pressure on timely healthcare delivery,” reports Breaking News.
