The death toll in Spain has more than doubled in a single day, with 288 people now known to have succumbed to COVID-19.

The country is now on lockdown, following the government’s decision to impose a two-week state of emergency. Citizens are only allowed to leave their home to buy groceries, medicines, go to work, or in case of an emergency.

The wife of Spain’s Prime Minister has now tested positive for the disease.
