Coronavirus: Government pass legislation that allow the Gardai to arrest people if they refuse to self isolate




Late last evening, the government passed new emergency legislation that will allow the Gardai to arrest people if they refuse to self isolate. It will give significant new powers to An Gardai to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.

In new measures that have been passed, anyone who is diagnosed with the virus will be detained if they refuse to stay indoors.

The new legislation will also allow the government to shut down mass gatherings if the situation continues get worse.

It is understood the legislation will also allow for automatic social welfare to for those who are unable to work due to the outbreak.
