For the first time in a generation, pubs and clubs around Ireland will not be open for St Patrick’s Day – a day notorious for heavy drinking and parties.
But this year, none of the above will be happening after pubs and clubs around the country made the mature decision, with a little shove in the right direction, to shut their doors over health and safety reasons from the covid-19 outbreak.
But that’s not stopping everyone.
People are organising so-called “virus parties” privately on whatsapp and Facebook messenger in an effort to get around the party ban.
Health experts have pleaded with people not to either organise or attend such parties claiming that they are putting themselves and especially the old and frail at an extreme risk of getting seriously ill.
People are advised to share this information with their friends.
