According to a recent report published by the Department of Finance the Irish taxpayer forked out a massive €14.3m on a call centre dedicated to Local Property Tax (LPT) enquires.
The massive outlay which has angered many was spent after the Government decided to outsource the help centre to Cork-based company, Abtran, rather than set up an official centre ran by the state.
The latest figures have revealed that the taxpayer spent just over €2.7 million for the running of the service in 2016 alone.
However the line proved to be a lot more costly in previous years as the service cost €2.8m, €5.2m, and €3.6m, in the years 2015, 2014 and 2013 respectively.
The latest figures have received a backlash of criticism from opposition TDs who say the outsourcing of the centre was complete waste of taxpayer funding.
