Counter terrorism police launch a major investigation after a couple are found poisoned at their home

Police in the UK have launched a major investigation after a couple were found poisoned at their home in Amesbury on Saturday evening.

It is reported that the incident happened approximately 8 miles from where a former Russian agent and his daughter were poisoned.

Officers investigating the incident say they have enlisted the help of the counter terrorism unit and that samples of the substance found at the property have sent to the the chemical weapons research laboratory in Porton Down.

Police say the matter is being treated as ‘serious’ and the couple who were found at a house on the Muggleton Road, are being treated at Salisbury District Hospital.

The couple who have been named as Charlie Rowley and Dawn Sturgess, were last seen in public attending a family fun day at a local church.

The suspected poisoning comes just over three months after Sergei and Yulia Skripal were found slumped over on a park bench in Salisbury.

Following an extensive investigation by high ranking police officials, it was later uncovered that the pair were the victims of a poisoning attack which was the result of the use of a deadly nerve agent.
