Covid-19: Confusion spreads among publicans in the wake of Failte Ireland’s re-opening guidelines

There’s widespread confusion among pub operators today, following the publication of a set of re-opening guidelines by Failte Ireland.

The new rules specify that punters will need to order a meal of a value of €9 or higher if they want a drink, and people will be able to remain in the pub for a maximum of 90 minutes after being served.

It also emerged earlier that customers might have to pre-book a time slot to visit the bar. Pre-booking will spare these customers from keeping the 2m social distance, but the 2m rule will still apply to walk-in customers.

Who will enforce these rules remains unclear, but publicans are now dismayed at the dismal and chaotic prospect they face when they re-open their premises.
