The weekly emergency payment will be ‘phased out’, according to Tanaiste Leo Varadkar, but there’s no confirmation about the date when this will occur. There were rumours that the payment will last until Christmas, but the Government has not confirmed this.
The payment, worth €350 a week, was introduced as a stopgap solution for people who lost their jobs at the start of the pandemic.
It has recently emerged that those receiving the payment are likely to receive hefty tax bills later in the year.
