Inter-county travel is likely to be allowed up to January 6, according to sources in Government.

The measure goes against advice by the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET), which recommended a ban on people travelling between counties.

Meanwhile, restaurants and gastropubs are likely to close again from December 31st.
