Covid-19: Ireland could return to Phase 2 of lockdown if new infections continue to increase, according to health authorities

Ireland could yet see a return to Phase 2 of lockdown if new infections continue to increase, according to health authorities.

Dr. Cillian De Gascun, a Consultant Virologist and Laboratory Director at the National Virus Reference Lab, warned that the virus ‘needs to be eliminated’ from the community, if Ireland is to avoid regressing to Phase 2.

Covid-19 cases have been increasing steadily over the past week, prompting fears of a second wave.
