Covid-19 miracle: Eamon Ryan’s second coronavirus test comes back negative less than 24h after a positive result, he’s now free to travel abroad and let the taxpayer pick up the tab

Ireland is a land of shamrocks and miracles, if Ballinspittle’s legacy is anything to go by. And in what’s possibly one of the greatest portents in modern Irish medical history, Minister for Transport (and handy crutch that enables Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to remain in power) Eamon Ryan’s second coronavirus test came back negative less than 24h after a positive result, which means he’s now free to travel abroad and let the taxpayer pick up the tab.

The minister tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, which put the kibosh in the minister’s plans to jet off to Glasgow to proudly fly the tricolor high at the COP26 conference.

Undeterred by this setback, and armed with a dogged determination to overcome disease (and go to Scotland come hell or high water), Mr. Ryan hastily underwent a second, follow-up test on recommendation by the Health Service Executive (HSE).

And in a glorious Hallellujah! moment, the second test came back negative, so the globetrotting minister’s plans were back on just like that.

Mr. Ryan’s herculean defeat of the Covid-19 virus in less than 24h begs the question of whether or not a second test taken by the thousands of people who tested positive across Ireland would render the same result. Such possibility suggests that the tests are unreliable and that, in reality, there have only been a few hundred actual cases of Covid-19 in Ireland.

Or maybe tests magically come back negative a second time only for Irish ministers who are scheduled to take a taxpayer-funded trip overseas in the immediate future.
