There is mounting evidence that Covid-19 might cause irreversible, long-term, multi-organ damage in survivors.
It was initially thought that the lungs bore the brunt of the disease’s attack, but scientists are now starting to see damage to other organs, including the brain.
Some survivors are reportedly enduring tingling sensations, headaches, and loss of taste or smell long after they officially recovered. Kidney damage has also been reported.
A study of more than 1,200 patients conducted by doctors at Edinburgh University found that 55% of all patients displayed heart abnormalities, with 15% suffering serious issues following the apparent clearing of the original infection.
