The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) has warned the Government of the potentially ‘significant’ impact of reopening the economy, advising that a new wave of coronavirus might soon follow.
Lockdown restrictions will be gradually eased over the next few weeks, which might lead to a resurgence of the virus before vaccines take full effect. According to NPHET, increased movement of people could lead to thousands of new daily cases in a relatively short period of time.
The Government recently stressed that it would ‘intervene’ if daily cases were to start surging again.
