Police in the Goettingen and North-Rhine Westphalia regions of Germany were called to control riots over the weekend, following a dramatic increase of coronavirus cases.
An entire apartment block in Goettingen was put in quarantine after no fewer than 120 people tested positive for Covid-19. Some residents attempted to break the blockade, which led to confrontations with police. At least 8 officers were injured in the struggle.
Germany’s R number has risen to 2.88, possibly indicating the arrival of a second wave of coronavirus infections.
