Pubs and shops are facing ongoing closure during the Christmas period unless the number of new coronavirus infections decreases significantly during the second lockdown.
According to the former Taoiseach appointee Leo Varadkar, the virus’ R number must be lowered to below 0.7. It currently stands at a massive 1.8 in some areas.
Non-essential retail stores, pubs, bars, etc., could remain shut if the R number does not come down to below 1.0.
