New applicants for the Pandemic Unemployment Scheme (PUP) will not be accepted from Thursday.
Almost 600,000 people were awarded the payment at the height of the pandemic.
The intention is to wind down the scheme over the coming weeks, with gradual €50 decreases.
On the opposite side of the societal spectrum however, there seems to be plenty money for TDs, who in recent days have seen their salaries rise above €100k for the first time.
