A top professor has suggested extending lockdown the until end of January to guarantee that the measures are truly effective. If such a move came to pass, Christmas and New Year celebrations would effectively be canceled.
According to Tomas Ryan, Professor at Trinity’s School of Biochemistry and Immunology, Ireland could see up to 1,000 Covid-19 cases a day if the economy once again reopens too early.
The number of new infections has decreased significantly since the start of the second lockdown, but there are fears that the virus could spread again once lockdown is lifted in December.
