World Health Organization (WHO) officials are investigating the possibility of airborne transmission of the coronavirus.
It was previously believed that infection was only possible by physical contact with droplets expelled from an infected person’s nose or mouth.
But scientists are now saying that there’s increasing evidence that the coronavirus might have become airborne. If this evidence becomes irrefutable, it would mean that a person could become infected by just being in the immediate vicinity of an infected person, even if no physical contact occurs.
If airborne transmission is confirmed, it would mean the start of a much darker chapter in the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic.
