A chicken had to be humanely put down in Waterford after it was allegedly used as a football by a young group of drunk adults.
According to Waterford Animal Welfare who have described the abuse as horrendous, the helpless chicken had to be put asleep after its underbody had become raw and its wings were clipped.
In a post on their Facebook page, Waterford Animal Welfare say they were alerted to the incident after Gardai who were informed by a concerned local who allegedly saw the chicken being kicked about like a football.
Upon arriving at scene, Waterford Animal Welfare found the terrified chicken cowering in the corner surrounded by empty beer cans.
Despite the best efforts of veterinary staff the chicken who was left unable to walk, had to be put asleep due to its extensive injuries.
It is not yet known where the chicken came from, but Gardai say they are currently investigating the incident.
