Transatlantic flight diverted to Shannon after crew member spills coffee over the controls

Condor Flight DE-2116, bound for Mexico, had to be diverted to Shannon after the flight crew spilled coffee over the controls, damaging some components.

The aircraft, an Airbus A330 model, was carrying 326 people and 11 crew at the time of the incident.

It’s understood that the flight captain accidentally knocked over his cup of coffee. Some hot liquid seeped into an audio control unit, causing it to malfunction. The crew also noticed a few wisps of smoke rising from the console, which prompted the captain to land at the nearest airport.

The aircraft landed safely in Shannon Airport a short time later.
